The Pediatric Hospice of Bologna, designed by Renzo Piano and funded by the Hospice Foundation MT. C. Seràgnoli, was presented the 27 June 2017. It will be completed in 2020 close to the Hospital of Bellaria.
Seràgnoli Foundation, well-known for its philanthropic commitment, also provides adequate assistance to incurable patients and their families.
The building will be surrounded by a deciduous leaf forest that will provide the shade in summer and will let the sun go through in winter. The volumes will be raised six meter above the ground with light and luminous spaces suspended between the sky and the earth.
There will be 4500 square meters of steel, glass and concrete structure: a main body, where there are the rooms of young patients, the therapy rooms and services, and three smaller bodies, one of which is intended for the parents’ residences. All volumes are connected by suspended bridges.
Milan Ingegneria has been involved in structural design.
