Awarded first prize at MIPIM, the JW Marriott resort was restored by Matteo Thun & Partners and combines fine contemporary design with the historical and cultural heritage and the elegance of its beautiful location, the Venetian island of Sacca Sessola.
Also known as Rose Island, Sacca Sessola is the largest island of the southern archipelago of the Venetian Lagoon and covers an area of 16 hectares. Numerous buildings surrounded by gardens and olive groves of great environmental value were brought to life after decades of total neglect thanks to architect Matteo Thun’s restoration project.
The luxury hotel-resort features wide accommodation space, a wellness centre, swimming pools, restaurants, a conference centre and business centre. The new dock is accessible by water transport through an excavated channel in the same place as the old channel, and five landing points along the perimeter.
