“Cecchignola” residential compound, Rome (Italy)

The village of Cecchignola was originally built for workers who were participating in the construction of the EUR district, and later became a self-contained military area closed to civilian traffic. A competition to masterplan the entire area was launched in 2010; the urban redevelopment project had to include the construction of 720 dwelling units, commercial spaces, amenities and services.
