“Expo Centre” within Expo 2015, Milan (Italy)

Expo 2015 will be held in Milan between May 1 and October 31, 2015, and will focus on the core theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. The event will be a platform to exchange ideas on the world of food. The Expo 2015 site is located north-west of Milan, next to the city’s new fair ground, and occupies an area of 110 hectares, bordered by a water channel. The site is laid out according to Ancient Rome urban planning principles, as it is organised on two perpendicular axes, the Decumano (World Avenue) and the Cardo.
Located on the extreme west end of the Decumano, Expo Centre is a multipurpose facility where events, shows and conferences will be held. It consists of three independent functional blocks: an auditorium, an outdoor performance area and an office building for the operational management of all activities which will be organised during the exhibition.

The first two blocks are designed to be dismantled at the end of the Exhibition, while the office building will not be demolished.
The pavilion consists of six small cones and a larger one; the 1500-seat auditorium is located inside the latter. The shape of the roof reminds the Earth’s crust and follows the geometries arising from the intersection of the various cones.
The structure is made of beams, pillars and steel struts, and is covered by wooden steps.
