New Auditorium, Bologna (Italy)

Commissioned by the Italian conductor Claudio Abbado, who wanted to give a high sound quality concert hall to Bologna, the project, designed by Renzo Piano, will seat 1800 spectators. The timber-clad hall will be arranged as the inside of a musical instrument. The auditorium will be developed vertically so that the structure will be adapted to the physical nature of sound, which tends to travel upwards.
