New Galeazzi Orthopedic Institute, former 2015 EXPO area, Milan (Italy)
The enterprising Galeazzi Orthopedic Institute development project plans the construction of a new edifice in the “Expo Milano 2015” area.The building comprises over 16 floors with a total area of 150,000 square meters. The ground floor hosts the Emergency Room, diagnostic services and reception. The upper floors serve the laboratories, 140 clinics, 35 operating rooms and an intensive care unit, while the ninth to fourteenth floors accommodate the in-patient wards. 10,000 square meters are allocated for research as well as an entire floor for foreign patients, targeting “health tourism”.
Particular attention is devoted to the environmental impact: environmentally friendly materials, emission reduction and renewable energy are the project keywords, and the bases of being awarded the LEED GOLD sustainability rating certification.
