Redevelopment of the Foggia Hospital “MONOBLOCCO” (Italy)
In 2018, the Foggia “Ospedali Riuniti” hospital decided to undertake three major projects: the demolition and reconstruction of the complex called “Monoblocco”, anti-seismic adaptation, D’Avanzo Hospital Unit plant systems engineering and functional redistribution, including the redevelopment of smaller buildings and the creation of a lab tower by demolishing the “clinic” and “laboratory”. Studio Plicchi with Arch. Marco Rizzoli, Milan Ingegneria, 3TI Italia and Archaeological Consulting Firm have been entrusted with the architectural and engineering services for the main body, the “Monoblocco”.
Since 1972, this multi-level structure has comprised several departments. Due to relative structural problems, certain parts of the building have already been demolished and reconstructed following criteria that respect the current anti-seismic regulations.
The new structure is to provide the facilities: first reception services, a public relations office, a front office, advocacy services, medical area operating units, a connection hub for the pavilions, a logistics hub, a refreshment point and cafe, a hospital canteen and an auditorium.
