A hotel overlooking the lagoon

Renovation and transformation of the 16th-century Casino Mocenigo and the former Ferro Furnace, which, thanks to Matteo Thun & Partners' project, will create a new 140-room hotel on the island of Murano. A hotel distributed around a large green courtyard, characterized by a mix of restored buildings and new constructions, accessible directly from the water.

Redevelopment in the glass island

The site of the intervention is located in the southern part of the island of Murano, facing in the direction of Venice, from which it is little more than a kilometer away. Here, behind the Rio dei Vetrai and facing the lagoon, stands a building completed in the early 17th century by the Morosini family. A structure that, having later come into the possession of the Mocenigo family, over time has been used as an ecclesiastical convent, a noble residence, and a glass warehouse. Behind it, during the 20th century, industrial buildings were built for glass production, the most important and characteristic activity of the island.

During the intervention, the entire area, which occupies an area of about 14,000 m2, today is being redeveloped and transformed into a luxury hotel, equipped with spa, restaurants, conference rooms and an important green area in the center of the complex. A project that envisages the preservation of the original facades of the historic buildings and the creation of new facilities, enhancing the industrial memory of the context, which is deeply linked to the art and tradition of glassmaking.
